BENGALURU: Bengaluru has emerged as the first region in Karnataka to achieve 100 per cent first dose vaccinations. Data released on Saturday, August 28, said that the total target population of Bengaluru Urban aged 16 and above is 10,62,262. However, total beneficiaries that have been vaccinated so far, including healthcare workers, frontline workers, and other citizens, are 10, 61,167 in number, which amounts to 100 per cent coverage.
Bengaluru Urban includes the population of five taluks – Bangalore North, Bangalore South, Kengeri, Yelahanka, Anekal, and Bangalore East. It covers over 100 villages and nine municipal corporations. In the limits of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the total target population is 94,42,272, and 67,29,439 beneficiaries have been vaccinated so far.
Dr K Sudhakar, Minister of Health, Government of Karnataka, said that over 4 crore vaccination shots have been administered in Karnataka, including 1 crore vaccination shots within BBMP limits. He mentioned that a special drive will be conducted every day to administer vaccines to people in every slum. The state is aiming to vaccinate the entire eligible population by the end of December this year.
