SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh is now successful in achieving the target of forming Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) under all the 3370 local bodies of the state. Following the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) follow up on the lack of enforcement of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, which mandates the formulation of People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) for every local body of India in September. The PBR is a legal documentation that details the information of biological resources of that particular region.
The information was released in a meeting held under the chairmanship of DC Rana, Member Secretary, HP State Biodiversity Board. The Himachal State Biodiversity Board, along with Panchayati Raj, Rural Development Department and Urban Development Department ensured that all the 3370 local bodies have an individual biodiversity management committee.
