PANCHKULA: In a bid to promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and reduce plastic pollution, Panchkula Municipal Corporation (PMC) has set up booths across various parts of the city that offer milk packets to people in exchange of plastic waste.
To spread the awareness, the civic body has come up with ‘Waste Exchange Programme’ to make city platstic free. Jarnail Singh, Executive Officer, Panchkula Administration said that under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan they have already banned plastic in Panchkula. The initiative to distribute milk free of cost in exchange of 1 kg plastic or 10 plastic bottle was started earlier on November 1.
Since, the initiative has begun, the civic body has collected five tonnes of plastic via exchange booths which has been sent for recycling.
