NEW DELHI: Microsoft Research and the Ola Mobility Institute have joined hands together to air quality on the streets of the national capital. On November 18, the two announced their alliance. The two companies have planned to leverage their strong research and data science capabilities jointly to conduct research and provide periodic reports and essential insights from the data collected. Microsoft and Ola have planned to collect the data for about a year to record and analyse the spectrum of variation in Delhi’s air pollution.

A joint statement released by the firms stated, “PM 2.5 data will be collected through sensors mounted on Ola’s fleet of cabs… vehicles have been identified based on a complex algorithm to ensure maximum geographical coverage of data. The sensors will be mounted in the engine compartment.”

Venkat Padmanabhan, Deputy managing director of Microsoft Research, India, said that they are excited to be partners with Ola. Ola’s reach in the country and Microsoft’s expertise in cutting-edge technologies such as IoT-based sensing and artificial intelligence will be an effective combination to perform such a rigorous research study with the goal of enabling informed solutions.
