JAIPUR: Commuters in the city of Jaipur continue to face problems in using buses run by the Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL). The city, which has a population of over 30 lakhs, has only 273 buses against a requirement of 2000.

Though there are 369 buses, around 100 of them are either not operable or have been condemned by the state government.

The city has a total of three depots – Vidhya Nagar, Todi Depot, and Sanganer Depot. Buses at the Sanganer depot generate the maximum revenue for the transport department. Half of the 146 buses at Sanganer depot which were tendered for maintenance to a private company till 2020, have been condemned by the government due to their poor condition. Ironically, the other half also break down frequently. Although, the remaining two depots have buses in working condition, no one knows how long they will continue to serve the commuters.

Commuters added that the average waiting time for JCTSL buses, which is around 40 minutes, is also the reason for people preferring private buses over state run buses.
