AHMEDABAD: With the aim of making better health services available to the poor, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to appoint super specialty doctors at urban and community health centers.
“The government has directed the AMC to appoint super specialty doctors at regular salaries and not on fixed salaries. The appointment will be made under the Gujarat Urban health Project and the government will give the salaries,” said Amul Bhatt, Chairman, Standing Committee.
He also said, “Currently, each of the 72 urban health centers and seven community centers in Ahmedabad city has only one MBBS doctor, but now these centers will have super specialty doctors. Now, the patients will not have to go to civil hospitals or big hospitals for specialised treatment.”
The move has been directed by the state government in order to help the poor in getting better treatment facilities near their houses. The government has made the city corporation responsible for fresh appointments of doctors in these centers.
