SANGRUR: Sangrur district authorities have identified and marked 76 ‘sensitive’ points at the Ghaggar river. Ghanshyam Thori, Deputy Commissioner, Sangrur, has instructed officials to accommodate land owners around these points that are susceptible to flooding by requesting them to hand over 20 feet of land on both sides of the river to the district authorities in order to widen river embankments in order to prevent any future mishap.
“The drainage department has prepared a special Rs 17-crore project to widen the embankments of the Ghaggar from Makorar Sahib village to Karail under Moonak to prevent breach in future. But, for this project we need 20 feet land on both sides of the river for the widening of embankments. I have directed all officials concerned to take necessary action,” Thori said.
