CHENNAI: S P Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration and Water supply, on July 8, made an announcement that the Chennai Metrowater will soon be adding two more sewage treatment plant in the city. The growing effort to increase the number on sewage treatment plant is been done to reduce the stress on fresh water sources for daily use of citizens and industries in the city.
According to the announcement, two plants, each with a capacity to treat 15 million liters of sewage daily are planned to be commissioned in Koyambedu and Kodungaiyur. The 120-crore project will provide 30 mld of tertiary treated water to industries. These plants will have a total capacity to handle 45 mld of sewage each and will cater to industrial units in Irungattukottai and Oragadam belt and Minjur-Manali belt.
