NEW DELHI: As Maharashtra fights with the second wave of COVID-19, effects of the third wave are visible as 8000 children in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra tested COVID positive in May. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackrey is making the inroads to control the situation in the state. According to reports, a COVID-19 special ward for children was made in Sangli district, Maharashtra, which is currently treating 5 children.
Authorities in the region are at high alert due to the increase in number of children and teenagers testing positive for COVID-19, which constitute almost 10 per cent of the total cases in the district. Rajendra Bhosale, District Chief, said that 8000 children testing positive in a month is worrisome. During the second wave, there was shortage of oxygen and beds, which needs to be resolved before the third wave.
Lockdown has been extended in the state till June 15. CM Uddhav Thackrey said that depending on the case statistics of the district, some relaxations will be provided. The state government also released a set of guidelines to be followed in the extended lockdown.
