LUCKNOW: The pollution was not reduced even after the traffic was low on a two-day holiday. The quality of air remained in very poor condition. Eight cities of Uttar Pradesh were listed among the top 10 most polluted cities in India. Kanpur remained on the first place with the AQI recorded as 420 micrograms per cubic meter.
With the decline in temperature, the amount of polluted particles in the air increases. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI recorded above 300 is due to the very poor quality of air, whereas the AQI level of 400 and above is regarded as ‘severe’. In the last one week, the AQI was recorded from ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ in many cities of the state. Ghaziabad remained second in the country after Kanpur with AQI recorded 415 micrograms per cubic meter. Whereas, Lucknow ranked 12th most polluted with the AQI recorded as 323.
Delhi also witnessed dangerous levels of pollution. The city recorded “worst” air quality of this season with AQI 366 on October 28 and was ranked 8th most polluted city.
