6.28 lakh affordable houses for urban poor approved by Urban Development Ministry

NEW DELHI: The Centre approves construction of nearly 6.28 lakh more affordable houses for urban poor in 11 states: Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Tripura and Manipur under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna A statement stated, Uttar Pradesh is getting the largest share of over 2.34 lakh housing units. The aim was to create 10 million cheap houses for urban poor from 2015 to 2022.

In a statement, the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said to release Rs 486.87 crore for first and second installments together to the state by relaxing norm in the sanctioned projects under PMAY(U).

For construction of houses under PMAY(U) the ministry has also advised the Kerala government that it may submit project proposals as soon as possible So that people can get relief in flood affected areas.

The approval was given in a meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) of PMAY(U) on 26 September 2018.
