56,368 new houses approved under PMAY(U)

NEW DELHI: Construction of 56,368 new houses has been approved under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) at the 53^rd Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee Meeting held on Monday, February 22. A total of 11 states and union territories (UTs) attended the meeting.

Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), said that we have to go into the mode of execution and implementation and also urged the states and UTs to ensure 100 per cent construction and delivery of PMAY-U houses. Mishra also reviewed the progress of Light House Projects (LHPs) and Demonstration House Projects (DHPs). The houses under LHPs are being constructed in Lucknow, Ranchi, Rajkot, Agartala, Chennai and Indore.

Mishra also said that the mission is promoting women empowerment by allocating the houses in the name of women beneficiaries or joint ownership. He asked the states and UTs that all the guidelines related to the mission should be followed at all levels and they should ensure that the name of women beneficiaries should be mentioned on the name plate of PMAY-U houses. MoHUA has aimed to provide pucca houses to all the urban beneficiaries by 2022.
