NEW DELHI: Under Phase-I and II of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) scheme, the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India has sanctioned the installation of 520 charging stations and 2877 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations.
The FAME India scheme, as the name suggests, aims to promote the faster adoption of electric vehicles in the country, including public transport. The central government aims to provide for the holistic development of the EV industry and charging infrastructure in the country. The government will provide financial assistance in the form of subsidies. It will provide subsidies for the procurement of 7090 e-Buses, 5 lakh three-wheelers, 55,000 four-wheeler passenger cars and 10 lakh two-wheelers.
The Ministry has sanctioned the installation of 520 charging stations under phase-I of the Fame India scheme. Apart from that, 2877 EV charging stations in 68 cities spread across 25 states/union territories, 1576 charging stations across 9 Expressways and 16 Highways under phase II of the scheme. As per PIB, a total of 532 charging stations have already been installed on July 15, and as per the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoONG), Government of India, a total of 3448 EV charging stations have been installed at the retail Outlets of Oil Marketing Companies (MOCs) as of July 1, 2022.
Earlier in the month of January, the Ministry of Power released the revised set of Guidelines & Standards on charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. New guidelines allow individuals to set up charging stations if they prescribe to all the technical and safety protocols.
