HYDERABAD: KT Rama Rao, Minister of Information Technology, Industries and Commerce, Government of Telangana, praised Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT) as they have connected 405 municipal and government schools to free WiFi in Hyderabad. He urged Bala Malladi, Chief Executive Officer, ACT, to lend their service and create a ‘Digital Health Profile’. The pilot project of the scheme would be conducted in Siricilla and Mulugu districts soon.
ACT has also set-up over 3000 public WiFi hotspots, which offer free of cost internet connectivity to the citizens in Hyderabad as part of the ‘Digital Telangana’ initiative. During a commemoration event held by ACT at ITC Kakatiya Hotel on Wednesday, August 4, Rao termed the achievement as the largest free public WiFi network of the country. He added that there is still a gap between digital haves and have-nots, which is evident as on one side, children in rural areas sit on roof to attend online classes and on the other, those in urban areas have easy access to infotainment.
Rao said that nowadays, it is not possible to live in a world without internet and e-health initiatives have to be extended to primary, secondary and tertiary health centres in the state. He also praised ACT for setting up WiFi hotspots in 47 out of 57 metro stations in the city.
