RANCHI: The Government of Jharkhand under its Mukhyamantri Shramik Yojana (MSY) offered over 35,000 job cards with 2.42 lakh workdays. MSY is an employment generation scheme for unskilled laborers in the city. The scheme was launched in the midst of the pandemic as many laborers were returning to Jharkhand.
During the crisis, many laborers were facing difficulty in keeping themselves and their families afloat. The scheme provided legal entitlement for employment to laborers by ensuring minimum wages.
Another mission under the scheme was related to the creation of durable assets and urban infrastructure such as roads, wells, buildings, parks etc. Vinay Kumar Choubey, Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, said that the scheme aims to benefit over 31 per cent of the urban population. He added that the workers would have to be engaged with 15 days of onsite work. In case the jobcard holder is not able to get employment within one month of the card’s issuance then they will be entitled to one-fourth of the daily minimum wage.
