SHILLONG, Meghalaya: Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma announced that the Government of Meghalaya has proposed a plan to open 300 new health sub-centres. The announcement came during the foundation laying ceremony of a new sub-centre at Chambagre, West Garo Hill district, Meghalaya. He also highlighted that the state government has allocated a budget of Rs 165 crores for the construction of these sub-centres.
The state government is empowering the local communities with the help of Village Health Councils (VHCs). Apart from that, the state government has set aside Rs 350 crores for the Meghalaya Health Infrastructure Strengthening Project for the upgradation of public health centres (PHCs) and community health centres (CHCs) in the state.
The sub-centres are being built observing the principle of sustainability, disaster resilience and integrated with clean energy. The state government is implementing the project in collaboration with Saura Mandala and SELCO Foundation.
CM Sangma posted on his twitter, “Laid foundation for the Chambagre Sub Center under the Selsella CHc at Chambagre in Selsella Block, #WestGaroHills District. This Model Health Sub Center will be sustainable, disaster resilient and integrated with clean energy.”
He further added, “We will construct 300 new Sub Centres across the state in the next 3-4 years. We have earmarked ₹165 Crores for upgradation of rural health facilities. Under the Meghalaya Health Infrastructure Strengthening Project, ₹350 Crore has been earmarked for upgradation of PHCs and CHCs across Meghalaya.”
