3 Indian cities to be listed in UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities

THRISSUR: The Government of India has recommended names of two cities from Kerala and one from Telangana to be listed in UNESCO’s Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC). Thrissur and Nilambur from Kerala and Warangal from Telangana have been listed. The official declaration from UNESCO is expected by January or February, coming year.

Currently, no city from India is listed in the GNLC. Meanwhile, the Thrissur Municipal Corporation (TMC), Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) and School of Architecture and Planning under Thrissur Engineering College are set to implement the project in the city in a cohesive manner. A 24-member steering committee has been formed with the Mayor of TMC MK Varghese as President. Dr Joy, General Director, KILA is the vice president of the committee. The project has been conceived for 10 years and the National Institute of Urban Affairs will be aiding the corporation.
