NEW DELHI: The Government of India approved 708 proposals for the construction of 3.61 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) on Tuesday, June 8. It was approved during the 54th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) under PMAY-U, which took place in New Delhi.
In addition to this, ‘PMAY-U Awards 2021 – 100 Days Challenge’ was inaugurated by Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). These awards are given to the states, union territories (UTs) and urban local bodies (ULBs) for their outstanding contribution towards implementation of the mission. This is the first meeting during the second wave of COVID-19 and the Ministry has laid emphasis on increasing the pace of delivering pucca houses around the nation.
Presently, MoHUA has sanctioned 112.4 lakh houses under PMAY-U while the construction of 82.5 lakh has begun of which, 48.31 lakh have been constructed and delivered. The total investment in the mission is Rs 7.35 lakh crore.
