NEW DELHI: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) said on Thursday, July 1, that it will declare 20 markets under its jurisdiction as single-use plastic free. The decision was taken in the first meeting of the ‘City Level Task Force’ regarding Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 and removing single-use plastics (SUPs), chaired by the Commissioner of SDMC.
Various decisions were taken in the meeting such as enforcement and monitoring of ban on plastics which are less than 50 microns, IEC activities in collaboration with Resident’s Welfare Associations, Market and Trader’s Association, Industrial Associations, etc. The meeting was held by SDMC on June 18, 2021.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Task Force, including district magistrates (South, New Delhi, South- East, South West, Central, North, and East district), deputy commissioners (Central, South, West, and Najafgarh zone), RWA-Defence Colony and Navjeevan Vihar, Representatives of Nehru Place Traders Association, Engineer-in-chief (SDMC) and Senior SDMC officials.
