HYDERABAD, Telangana: Newly constructed 15,600 houses constructed under the Double Bed Room Housing Scheme in Telangana are waiting for the inauguration ceremony, preparation for which is being made by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
These dwelling units, called Kollur 2BHK Dignity Housing Colony, will transform the lives of over 15,000 families that used to reside in dingy slums.
This housing complex is spread on 120 acres of land, on which 15,660 houses spread across 117 blocks have been built. The project has received Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) award for best practice under Housing, Urban Poverty and Infrastructure theme and has garnered praise at the national level.
The houses have been built for the economically weaker sections of the state and are rivalling similar housing complexes built by the private players. Water and electricity connection has been completed in the dwelling units. New colony also has parks and tracks for walking, a sewage treatment plant (STP), power backup for lifts, illuminated corridors and open air gyms within its limits.
Civic body official said, “The Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will inaugurate this mega housing colony and GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar is personally monitoring the works.”
