GURUGRAM: In a recent survey conducted by the Fire department of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), a total of 110 coaching centers have been found operating without a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the fire department. The survey was conducted post the Surat fire. The owners of the coaching center had never applied for an NOC from the fire department and most of them lack fire extinguishers and emergency exits.

Most of these establishments are located in Gurugram’s sector-14, Palam Vihar, old railway road, new railway road, and Sectors 52 and 56.

The fire department plans to punish the offenders and will also soon conduct mock fire safety drills at several coaching centers across the city.

“The violation of fire safety norms is a serious matter and needs attention of educational institutions. The civic body will go through the survey report. Coaching center owners will be given time to follow the rules, failing which they will be penalised. The punishment may be as serious assealing of the premises.” said Yashpal Yadav, Commissioner, MCG.
