India: India is the global host of this year’s World Environment Day, with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” for this year edition. World Environment Day is the United Nations’ (UN) most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. It is the single largest celebration of our environment each year.
Each year a different theme is chosen for Environment Day for tackling a different set of environmental problems and this year theme is focused on reducing the use of plastic waste.
For addressing such a problem and as the host country itself India has taken some major initiative for reducing the plastic use. The govt. is hosting Pan-India activities and events like plastic clean-up drive in public areas, national reserves and forests to simultaneous beach clean-up activities.
Gaurav Grover, President of New Delhi Social Worker Association (NDSWA) said: “This initiative will encourage all the citizens that they should come forward and fight against the issue of plastic use which is polluting the environment”.
