VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has planned to take up the Vishwamitri River project under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP). As the plan stays deferred for a long time now, VMC is all set to go ahead with its development.
Under NRCP 60% of the project would be financed by the Government of India, 10% by the state and the remaining 30% will be borne by the civic body. The proposal by VMC to redraft a sewage-free river plan for Vishwamitri river will span the stretch from Vadodara to Asoj. It will also ensure that the sewage does not enter the river. For this plan to work, not only the sort of work to be done along the Vishwamitri has to change, but also the project should be renamed from time to time. Thus, VMC changed the name of the project from Vishwamitri Riverfront Project to Vishwamitri River Revival Project.
Moreover, the nomenclature of the corporation handling this project was also changed from Vishwamitri Riverfront Development Corporation Limited to Vishwamitri River Revival Corporation Limited
