Use eco-frendly idols for Vinayagar Chathurthi

MADURAI: Madurai district administration has laid down new rules for celebrating pollution free Vinayagar Chathurthi. The district administration has specified spots where Ganesh idols can be immersed.
For celebrating pollution free Vinayagar Chathurthi, the administration has said that idol maker should use eco-friendly product like clay, yam flour, and sago industry. Idols immersed in the water should be chemical free, if the idols are found harmful permission would be denied for their immersion.
A new rule is laid down by the Madurai district police that only idols less than 10 feet height are allowed.
Madurai district collector S Natarajan said with the state government taking efforts to restore water bodies, it is responsibility of every person to ensure that they do not pollute the environment.
