UP govt to give 60% funding for AMRUT II projects

LUCKNOW, Uttar Pradesh: The Government of Uttar Pradesh has decided to revise the funding pattern of projects under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation – II (AMRUT-II). The decision has been taken considering the delays in the water supply and sewerage network project. After revision, the funding pattern will be 25:60:15 in which the share of state government will be 60 per cent.

According to the earlier funding pattern, the state government used to provide 45 per cent of the project cost which will increase to 60 per cent. The share of urban local bodies will also go down. Earlier, they have to pay 30 per cent of the project cost. After revision, they will have to pay only 15 per cent.

About ₹35,000 crore has been set aside for the implementation of the second phase of the AMURT mission with an enhanced focus on strengthening water conservation and efficient urban planning.

Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary, the Department of Urban Local Bodies, said, “The decision to revise the funding pattern has been taken given the financial duress that the civic bodies have been facing for a long.”

A senior official said that the department has taken into account the total outstanding over the urban local bodies over the years to make the decision.

During the project, review it was found that over 380 projects related to water supply, sewerage, wastewater recycling, and developing parks were delayed significantly. It was found that the delayed payment to the contractors has been causing this delay.
