Ukkayapalli dumping yard to be turned into a park

KADAPA:  Justice B Seshasayana Reddy, State-Level committee Chairperson, National Green Tribunal (NGT) after visiting Ukkayapalli dumping yard on May 1, announced that 10-acre of the dump yard land would be developed into a full-fledged park with facilities like walking tracks, solar lighting system, children’s play area and a resting area.

He also visited Maddimadugu dump yard and announced that garbage should be dumped here in a scientific manner. 

Reddy said, “The Maddimadugu dumping yard will get solar lighting, internal roads and water supply with Rs 3.09 crore funded from Swachh Andhra Corporation. Kadapa city is churning out garbage to the tune of 156 tonnes every day, which will be disposed of in a scientific manner in this 99-acre yard, by segregating dry and wet waste. Steps would be taken to ensure that nothing else enters this site, barring municipal solid waste. The practice of burning waste should be done away with.”

Lavanna, Municipal Commissioner, Subba Rao and Janardhan Rao, senior environmental engineers at Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Javed Basha Kadapa, regional environmental engineer, M Daula, Municipal Engineer, Srivasa Reddy, Health officer, were among some government officials present during the visit and announcement by Reddy.
