TomTom report: Bengaluru and Pune are India’s slowest cities

BENGALURU, Karnataka: In a recent report by Amsterdam-based location technology specialist TomTom, Bengaluru and Pune have been identified as the slowest cities to navigate in India, securing the sixth and seventh positions globally.

Bengaluru records an average travel time of 28 minutes and 10 seconds for a 10 km journey, while Pune closely follows with a travel time of 27 minutes and 50 seconds. London tops the global list as the slowest city to drive through, with an average speed of only 14 km per hour during rush hour.

Bengaluru was also ranked as the second most congested city in 2023, trailing just behind Dublin, Ireland. The report highlighted September 27 as the worst day to travel through Bengaluru, with an average of 32 minutes required to cover a 10 km distance.

The TomTom Traffic Index shed light on traffic challenges faced by two other major Indian cities – Delhi secured the 44th position, averaging 21 minutes and 40 seconds for a 10 km drive, while Mumbai followed closely at 52nd place, with a travel time of 21 minutes and 20 seconds.

The TomTom Traffic Index, evaluated 387 cities across 55 countries, pinpointed the impact of traffic on travel time, fuel costs, and CO2 emissions. The data for this analysis was sourced from over 600 million in-car navigation systems and smartphones.
