DHANBAD: Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) purchased 200 rickshaw carts for collecting trash from each household in all the 55 wards and transport it to the nearest dumping sites.
Vijay Kumar, city manager, DMC on November 21 said that there are 200 rickshaw carts till date. With the arrival of 200 more, door-to-door garbage collection will get a boost. Carts are allotted for different five wards – Jharia, Dhanbad, Sindri, Katras and Chatatand – in a day or two.
Kumar further added, “Six to seven carts will be allotted for each of the 13 densely populated wards of Dhanbad and three to four carts in other wards of Sindri, Jharia, Katras and Chatatand. With the arrival of the new carts, the door-to-door collection of garbage, which was being carried out in 15 wards, can now be extended to all the 55 wards.”
The dune bin-fitted carts would also help in the separate collection of dry and wet waste as the focus of Swachh Survekshan 2019 scheduled in January will be on segregation of waste.
