CHENNAI: To increase the security and surveillance in the state, Tamil Nadu Police force and Fire and rescue department will buy drones and body worn cameras. The TN Police is going to use the body worn cameras for maintaining law and order and the fire and rescue department is going to use drone for fire accidents and rescue services. The announcement of buying the devices was made by Edappadi K Palaniswami, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu in the assembly on July 19.
The state plans to buy 10 body worn cameras for 20 law and order units in the cities and districts at a cost of Rs 1 crore. Police commissionerates and ranges will be provided with 16 drones at a cost of Rs 38 lakhs.
Last year, body worn cameras were introduced in the traffic management department of TN Police. The fire and rescue service department will get 50 drones at a cost of Rs 1 crore for various fire accidents and rescue missions, said Chief Minister. With these new gadgets getting included into the TN police and fire and rescue department the state look at better police management.
