Telangana wins 12 national awards for sanitation

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Municipal Administration Department has won 12 national awards in sanitation challenge. The results of the challenge were declared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The ministry conducted a national-level sanitation challenge.

The participants included Swachh Survekshan, Garbage-Free Cities rating, Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge which was analysed on overall sanitation improvement and improved citizen awareness towards waste management in 4300 cities and towns in the country.

Telangana has been declared winner under the state category amongst 12 awards in the challenge. KT Rama Rao, Minister of Municipal Administration, Government of Telangana, said that the state government has taken several initiatives such as waste to energy, construction and demolition waste plants, and faecal sludge treatment plant.

Rao added that Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekar Rao has focussed mainly on the development of rural and urban local bodies under Palle and Pattana Pragathi programmes. He added that the state has constructed more than 9,000 public toilets, 1,57,000 individual toilets, procured and distributed 4,842 Swachh autos, and has constructed faecal sludge treatment plants in order to prevent pollution.
