Tap-in Tap-out digital bus service launched in Mumbai

Representative Image

MUMBAI: Aditya Thackeray, Minister of Environment, Government of Maharashtra inaugurated the tap-in tap-out bus service on the Gateway of India to Churchgate route. Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) is India’s first completely digital bus service.

It is bound to make commuting simpler for people as they can now tap-in using their smart cards or the ‘Chalo’ app on their smartphones. On their way out, the commuters can collect their ticket or if they use the app on the smartphone, they get the receipt on tap-out. These buses will be conductor-less, but the conductors will be present on the bus stops for people who would prefer to buy paper tickets.

All 10 buses on this route would soon be made digital. The plan will also be expanded to all the 438 routes.
