CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu has received five awards from central government for effective implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
S P Velumani, Minister municipal administration and rural development received the award from Narendra Singh Tomar, Union minister for rural development, panchayat raj and mines at an event in Delhi on 11th September 2018. The state government has also received award for initiatives taken under Geo-MGNREGA. Thoothukudi district has been awarded the national award for achieving self-sufficiency under Gram Swaraj Abhiyan.
