State issued warning against volunteers distributing supplies during lockdown: Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu state government warned individuals, organisations and political parties in state against the distribution of essential supplies as such are leading to violating the lockdown and could lead to further spread of novel coronavirus.

An official release by state read, “If anyone is found involving in such acts, they could be considered to have violated the orders and District Collectors and police officers are instructed to initiate appropriate legal actions against them.”

The release reiterated that if such volunteering actions are to be done during a lockdown, the individuals, organisations or political parties could do so through concerned authorities only.

The press release pointed to the order issued earlier that for distribution of essential items in the state could be done by contributing to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF). The press release state that in the case of Municipal Corporation the contribution could be made to the Municipal Commissioners and in case of villages and small towns, a contribution can be made to respective local authorities.

The state government has already issued orders to use the contribution in kind to feed people in need through community kitchens and to distribute dry rations to needy families.
