CHENNAI: According to the recent data reported by Greater Chennai Corporation, the recent lockdown has bought down the amount of solid waste generated in the city. The city which usually produce 5000 tonnes of solid waste has reduced it to under 3,700 tonnes which explain the drop in 28 per cent waste generation during quarantine. According to the officials, they are collecting door-to-door house hold waste daily in all its 200 wards. But there is a significant reduction in garbage. One of the reason highlighted for reduction in solid waste is the migration of many residents to their native villages, hence many household remain locked. Due to lockdown many commercial works have stopped and waste generated from such places have reduced significantly. “The waste generated in commercial areas such as T. Nagar, Purasawalkam and George Town has reduced considerably,” said an official from the Corporation
