BHUBANESWAR, Odisha: The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, inaugurated 15 projects worth ₹305 crore in Hinjili municipality and announced that soon, Sheragada panchayat in Ganjam district will become Notified Area Council (NAC).
CM announced the move following the inauguration of 15 different projects worth ₹305 crore in Sheragada, which come under his own constituency, Hinjili. CM also addressed the gathering and said, “I declare Sheragada panchayat will become an NAC.” He added, “It’s a long-standing demand of the people to give NAC status to Sheragada, as it fulfils all criteria for an urban local body.”
The NAC will come into existence by merging seven revenue villages from the Sheragada panchayat and one from adjoining panchayats. However, the upgradation from rural local bodies to urban local bodies would require the consent of the concerned panchayats.
After the formation of the NAC, the number of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the Ganjam district will increase to 18, including Hinjili Municipality and Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC).
While thanking the people of his constituency for allowing him to serve them, Patnaik informed that the government has been working to provide irrigation facilities to all farmland and piped water supply to every household in Sheragada and Hinjili blocks.
CM also mentioned the 5T initiative, which began in Hinjili Municipality. Patnaik said, “Under the initiative, over 8,000 high schools across the state have been transformed. Transformation of Tara Tarini and Shyamalai temples and the Jagannath Temple Parikrama Prakalpa under the 5T initiative have attracted attention across the country.”
On the other hand, V K Pandian, Chairman of 5T and Nabin Odisha, announced that the scheme Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI) is all set to launch on February 21. In his address, he also spoke about some of the other schemes operational in the state.
