JAIPUR: Several districts of Rajasthan continue to suffer from floods caused by a higher than usual rainfall. The water level of the Chambal river continues to flow above danger level. Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, in order to get a better idea of the damage that the floods have caused, conducted an aerial survey of Jhalawar, Bundi, Kota, Karauli and Dholpur districts.

Gehlot, while talking about the Rajasthan floods, said that they were not as bad as the floods in Assam and Bihar. He added that the situation arose due to discharge of water from Madhya Pradesh.

The CM added that 54 people had been killed in Rajasthan due to the rains this monsoon. After surveying the flood-hit areas along the Chambal, CM Gehlot said, “Everyone has been provided compensation, and people affected by floods in these areas will also get compensation for their loss.”

Bhanwarlal Meghwal, disaster management and relief minister and Shanti Dhariwal, urban development and housing minister, were with the CM during the survey. The army and the state and national disaster relief force were rescuing people, said Meghwal.

Water levels in Chambal was 243.45 metres, which is around 3 metres more than the danger level of 240 metres. Gehlot said that Madhya Pradesh is discharging less water now, but the state continues to keep tabs on the rain alert.
