SDMC procures 55 machines to improve sanitation

NEW DELHI: In a bid to better the sanitation levels in their area, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has procured 55 machines on Tuesday, December 3. Two machines would be used to clear clogged sewage drains, six are mechanical road sweepers, 17 water sprinklers and 26 CNG powered trucks for collection and transportation of debris.

Gyanesh Bharti, SDMC Commissioner, commented that the super sucker machines are the best in the country. These machines are competent in accessing difficult to reach locations in the drainage networks. He also mentioned that these machines cost Rs 9.40 crores each. The CNG powered LCV trucks have been procured for the transportation of demolition debris and other jobs of similar nature. The mechanical sweepers can lift up to 4.5 cubic meters of dust and would be a major asset in curbing the dust pollution levels of the city.

The funds for the purchase of the equipment, amounting to Rs 12.64 crore, was provided by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under Swachh Bharat Mission.
