The colored sticker will help authorities to identify and analysis vehicles running on high polluting fuel from specific routes on particular days.
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways filed an affidavit regarding the matter and bench of Justice Deepak Mishra and Justice Madan B Lokur asked the government to get it done by 2nd October.
The Centre’s affidavit said that “after introduction of coloured stickers, the use of more polluting vehicles can be restricted in a congested or a polluted zone temporarily or permanently depending on the pollution level”, and that “this decision should be taken by the local authority based on Air Quality Index of the area”.
Some car manufactures like Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd told the court that they make hybrid vehicle, and there in no distinct color coding for them, to this Additional Solicitor General, A S Nadkarni told that electric vehicles will have green sticker on them.
