Rama Rao Launches Swachh Badi; aims to educate kids on waste management

HYDERABAD, Telangana: K T Rama Rao, Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Government of Telangana, launched Swachh Badi (clean school) initiative in all the civic bodies of the state.  The aim of the programme is to educate children about waste segregation, composting, recycling, and reducing plastic usage.

Rao visited the first Swachh Badi at Siddipet and stated that the programme’s intent is to train the next generation in better handling of solid waste management.

While speaking at the launching event, Rama Rao said that Swachh Badi would be set up in all 141 municipalities at the cost of ₹71 crore. He also highlighted the state government’s focus on sanitation in urban local bodies and spoke about the initiatives that have been implemented such as Faecal Sludge Management and treatment plants, Dry Resource Collection Centres, and public toilets. He further added that towns now have more green space because of a significant increase in parks, nurseries, and urban breathing areas.

The minister emphasized the quick growth of cities and towns of the state and mentioned that the central government too has recognized and honoured the Municipal Administration department for its dedication to urban development. The minister mentioned programmes that are aimed at beautifying and restoring urban lakes, extending the Metro Rail, and preserving historic buildings.

He stressed the importance of the urban places and shed light on the significant contribution of Hyderabad and its surroundings which generate 45 to 50 per cent of the state’s revenue.  He also stated that the government remains committed to providing a balanced, integrated, inclusive, and comprehensive administration that ensures the welfare of all sections of society in towns and cities.
