JAIPUR: Employees of the Transport Department of Rajasthan will now be observing a ‘No Vehicle Day’ on the first working day of every month. This decision of implementation of the ‘No Vehicle Day’ was taken by Pratap Singh, Minister for Transport, Government of Rajasthan with the aim of promoting road safety and reducing sound and air pollution caused by vehicles. Singh said that all officers and employees working in the Transport Department will come to the office as pedestrians, via bicycle or via public transport services on the first working day of every month. He added that he too will observe this day and travel to work using a bicycle. This order, however, will not be applicable to the ticket-checking squad or the differently-abled employees of the department. Singh explained that the initiative will also spread awareness about the need to increase usage of public transport and road safety. The department will start the initiative from the first working day of the year 2020
