Rajasthan govt approves Rs 6,512.93 crores for ensuring water supply during summer

JAIPUR: In order to avoid any water shortages during summer, the Government of Rajasthan has approved Rs 6,512.93 crore for ensuring ample water supply in various parts of the state for four months till July. According to an official statement, of the total sanctioned amount, Rs 4,112.46 crore is for rural areas while Rs 2,400.47 crore is for urban areas. The amount will be used to transport water across Rajasthan.

Field officials had been earlier asked to evaluate the areas that were most hard hit by water shortage during summers. Based on the recommendations of these officials, proposals were sent to the government for providing water in 134 cities and towns. A similar process was carried out for rural areas too where proposals for water transport in 14,332 habitats (6,672 villages and 7,662 dhanias) were submitted to the government. Of these, 229 habitats have been selected to be covered under the government scheme.

CM Chauhan, Chief Engineer (Urban and NRW) said that the scheme is aimed at ensuring a continuous supply of water to the selected areas during summer.
