PATHANAMTHITTA: The Pulikeezhu block panchayat has launched a project, ‘Nirmalam Nirbhayam’ aimed at making the block panchayat limits safer for women and keeping sanitation in check.
SatheeshChathankary, president, Block Panchayat, said that the project envisaged installation of CCTV cameras at select points identified by a joint team of police personnel, people’s representatives and panchayat officials in different parts of the panchayat limits.
Pulikeezhu has infact become the first block panchayat in Kerala to take such measures for women safety with the co-operation of various gram panchayats and the police.
A total of 44 cameras are to be installed in the block panchayat limits in first phase of project, out of which 19 CCTV cameras are already installed.
A control room for round-the-clock surveillance has been set up at Pulikeezhu police station. The whole system is installed by the Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE).
Satheesh said that the CCTV cameras would be of great help to prevent or reduce the growing crimesagainst women and to take stern action against those who dump waste in public places and in water bodies.
