NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court directed the Center, Delhi University, and the city police to ensure that public property was not dirty during the upcoming DUSU elections. Also, it is widely publicized about the punitive consequences of such activities
A bench comprising acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar said that to make the public property dirty does not mean just patching pictures or writing slogans on public property, including posters and hoarding.
The court directed the authorities to take steps in this regard. The bench also asked officials to make extensive publicity about this in all the colleges and premises of Delhi University that there is a penal provision for this crime. The court was told that the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election is likely to be held in September. The court advocate was hearing a petition of Prashant Manchanda.
During the DUSU election, he demanded a complete ban on the public property being dirty.
The bench asked the Delhi government counsel Sanjay Ghosh to ensure that the Delhi Police took strict action against it. The court directed the DU students, who dirty the property of Delhi Metro during the university election last year, to participate in the meeting organized for the beautification of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation sites. The court will now hear the case on September 12.
