NEW DELHI: Proposal to launch 1000 low floor buses, under cluster scheme is likely to get a nod by the Delhi cabinet on November 22.

Kailash Gahlot, Transport Minister of Delhi had informed earlier that in the next Delhi cabinet meeting the proposal to procure these busses will be put up. A Delhi government official said cabinet meeting is scheduled on November 22.

Gahlot had said that by the end of November, the Delhi government will float tenders for 1,000 low-floor, CNG-run buses and about 80 per cent of these will be air-conditioned. It is for the first time that air-conditioned buses will run under the cluster scheme. The first batch is expected to start rolling out in the next six months.

An official said, Rs 3 lakh per bus to the private operator would be paid by the government every month under the viability gap funding system. The operator will have to run each bus 200 kilometres every day and will have to keep 98 per cent of the fleet available.
