Prime Minister to launch AMRUT 2.0 in Karnataka on Nov 11

BENGALURU, Karnataka: Byrathi Basavaraj, Minister for Urban Development, Government of Karnataka, said that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi would be inaugurating the drinking water project in Karnataka on Friday, November 11. The drinking water project is part of the central government’s ambitious Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 scheme.

The minister was addressing a gathering organised to inaugurate a new Jal Bhavan building on Sunday, October 30. The building has been constructed by the Karnataka Urban Water Supply Drainage Board (KUWSDB) at the cost of ₹13.86 crore in Kalaburagi. He also said that the government is determined to provide an uninterrupted drinking water supply to all the households in the state and asked the concerned officials and staff to address people’s problems.

Minister lauded the efforts of Bhuvanesh Patil, Commissioner, Kalaburagi City Corporation. Basavaraj said that around ₹200 crore had been allocated to the civic body under the Urban Development Scheme, and more funds will be allocated if the sanctioned grants are spent in time.

Narasimha Nayak (Raju Gowda) said the central government has allocated around ₹9,000 crore for the state of Karnataka under the AMRUT Mission 2.0. With the help of this fund, the state government will be able to launch a 24×7 drinking water supply scheme which will cover 160 civic bodies in the state.

Dattatreya Patil Revoor, Chairman of Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB), said that the 24×7 drinking water project in Kalaburagi is on the verge of completion and asked for more funds for the city corporation under the Urban Development Scheme. He also asked to include Kalaburagi and Ballari cities in the list of smart cities released by the Department of Urban Development.
