HYDERABAD: The Government of Telangana has decided to work on integrating the development of townships to decongest the city of Hyderabad.  After receiving approval from the state cabinet, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department released ‘Telangana Comprehensive Integrated Township Policy Rules 2020’.

The city’s development is known to be concentrated only in certain regions, which includes mostly eastern and western parts. This results in congestion and overburdened infrastructure. This initiative comes as an attempt to ensure 360 degree growth of Hyderabad and to deal with the challenges of crumbling urban infrastructure due to rapid urbanization. The policy promotes the concept of ‘walk to work’ in the forms of a township.

KT Rama Rao, Minister, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, said, “The policy aims at decongesting the core city of Hyderabad.” He added that the policy also offers more benefits to real estate developers so that they can develop more satellite townships and counter magnets about 5 kilometres outside of the Outer Ring Road of the city.
