NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ‘Maitri Setu’ between India and Bangladesh on Tuesday, March 9, via video conferencing.
The 1.9-kilometer (km) bridge over the trans-border Feni river that connects Sabroom in Tripura and Ramgarh in Bangladesh, was taken up by India’s National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited at an expense of Rs 133 crore.
The Prime Minister’s Office in a recently issued statement said that the name ‘Maitri Setu’ symbolises growing bilateral relations and friendly ties between India and Bangladesh. It is prepared to advocate a new chapter for trade and people-to-people movement between Bangladesh and India.
PM will also inaugurate setting up an integrated check post at Sabroom which will help ease the movement of goods and passengers between the two countries, provide new market opportunities for products of North East states and facilitate impeccable movement of passengers to and from India and Bangladesh.
