NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launching a new and advanced digital payment platform called e-RUPI via video conferencing today at 04:00 PM. The platform has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and the National Health Authority.

“It is presumed to be a revolutionary initiative which will ensure leak-proof delivery of welfare services,” PM Modi stated. E-RUPI is a cashless and contactless platform for digital payments. It is a Quick Response code-based e-voucher, which will be delivered to the mobile of the user; vouchers can be redeemed without any card or digital payments application at the service provider. It will leave no room for physical interface and it will assure timely payment to the service provider without the involvement of any intermediary, the official press report stated.

Moreover, it can be used for delivering services under schemes meant for providing nutritional supplements and drugs under mother and child welfare schemes. Private sector companies can also leverage these digital vouchers as a part of their employee welfare and corporate social responsibility programmes, the press report further said.
