NEW DELHI: The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has come up with a new plan to manage waste. EDMC released a tender to hire a private agency for developing an e-municipal solid waste monitoring system that would track the real-time location of garbage collectors and even the current status of dumps.
For a very long time, east Delhi residents were facing problem about the over-flowing garbage dumps and irregular door-to-door collection.
“The project will help the residents to track the real-time location of auto-tippers and trucks that collect garbage. A central control room is being set up at the EDMC headquarters where the real-time situation of garbage dumps will be monitored. CCTV cameras will be installed at all dumps and the department will deploy vehicles as per the requirement”, said EDMC senior official.
Pictures will be recorded by solar-powered CCTV cameras, at an interval of every 15 minutes. The official claimed that all vehicles would be covered by the GPS-based monitoring system, edmctracking.com and the system would also help them to identify people burning garbage near dumps.
The corporation has 124 garbage trucks, 302 auto-tippers, 100 tractor-trolleys and 30 loaders. EDMC has set a deadline of three months to make the system up and running.
