BHUBANESHWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a set of guidelines and instructions to control the rise in dengue cases in Odisha. The BMC, in their order, said that the responsibility to control the spread of the vector-borne disease is in the hands of the residents. They added that all citizens should prevent the stagnation of water in areas that are uncovered and hence could be the potential breeding ground of the mosquitoes.

According to the BMC’s instructions, the places and institutions that were closed due to the coronavirus-induced pandemic should be inspected for stagnant water or rainwater and cleaned. They suggested that the responsibility be allocated to a staff member to check the grounds for stagnated water once the office opens. The seized vehicles at the police stations should also be moved under covered areas and be given special care as they can store stagnant water.

The BMC also ordered garage owners and vehicle repair shops to prevent the storage of stagnant water in vehicle parts. The Resident Welfare Association has also been asked to take steps to prevent waterlogging in residential areas to prevent mosquito breeding. BMC concluded that the instructions should be followed by all concerned as the enforcement wing will be conducting surprise checks and those found in violation will be penalized/prosecuted as per the law.
